About this card

Electrode · Base Set 2, what to know.

About the Electrode card

Electrode is card 25 of 130 in Base Set 2, released in February 2000, a Rare. It is a Stage 1 Lightning-type with 80 HP.

As a Stage 1, it evolves from Voltorb, which places Electrode deeper in its line and means most collectors hold it alongside the cards it evolves from.

Illustrated by Keiji Kinebuchi. Kinebuchi contributed a smaller body of Wizards-era cards but is responsible for several memorable holos, with a warm, heavily textured style.

The card's flavor text gives Electrode a line of lore: "It stores electrical energy under very high pressure. It often explodes with little or no provocation."

About Electrode in the Pokémon world

The fully evolved Voltorb. Inverted color scheme. Jungle holo Electrode has thin demand outside set completionists.

What is Electrode worth?

Electrode is a non-holo Rare. In Base Set 2, value concentrates in the holo rares, so a Electrode trades modestly, though a clean, well-centered 1st Edition copy in PSA 10 is scarcer than the print run suggests and carries a real premium. Check the live price above for the figure by grade.

Print variants and how to spot them

Base Set 2 produced Unlimited prints. For Electrode, the print variant can change the price several times over, so identify it before you buy.

Grading and condition

On Electrode, look at the corners and the framed border first. Non-holo Rares took more handling than the chase holos, so a sharp, centered copy of Electrode in a true PSA 10 is harder to find than the print run suggests.

If you are collecting Electrode

For Electrode, check centering by eye, edge whitening on all four sides, and surface under angled light. Non-holo Rares from this era are cheap enough that a PSA 10 submission on a clean Electrode can make sense.
