Genesect · Phantasmal Flames, what to know.
About the Genesect card
Numbered 8 of 130 in Phantasmal Flames, released in January 2026, Genesect is a Rare, a Basic Grass-type carrying 120 HP.
As a Basic Pokémon, Genesect needs no prior evolution to put into play, which made it a practical card in the era's decks.
Illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita. Arita painted the Base Set Charizard and much of the early holo run, and his work has a painterly weight that set the visual tone of the Wizards era.
Genesect carries this Pokédex flavor text: "This Pokémon existed 300 million years ago. Team Plasma altered it and attached a cannon to its back."
What is Genesect worth?
Genesect is a non-holo Rare. In Phantasmal Flames, value concentrates in the holo rares, so a Genesect trades modestly, though a clean, well-centered 1st Edition copy in PSA 10 is scarcer than the print run suggests and carries a real premium. Check the live price above for the figure by grade.
Print variants and how to spot them
Confirm the print and finish on Genesect before pricing it, since variant and rarity set the market more than the card name alone.
Grading and condition
Non-holo Rares like Genesect are easier on surface but no kinder on centering. These cards were less protected than the holos, so high-grade Genesect survivors can be scarcer than expected, with edge whitening the usual cap.
If you are collecting Genesect
For Genesect, check centering by eye, edge whitening on all four sides, and surface under angled light. Submission math on Genesect rarely works unless the card has independent demand.
