Wigglytuff · Base Set 2, what to know.
About the Wigglytuff card
Wigglytuff is card 19 of 130 in Base Set 2, released in February 2000, a Rare Holo. It is a Stage 1 Colorless-type with 80 HP.
As a Stage 1, it evolves from Jigglypuff, which places Wigglytuff deeper in its line and means most collectors hold it alongside the cards it evolves from.
Illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita. Arita painted the Base Set Charizard and much of the early holo run, and his work has a painterly weight that set the visual tone of the Wizards era.
The card's flavor text gives Wigglytuff a line of lore: "The body is soft and rubbery. When angered, it will suck in air and inflate itself to an enormous size."
About Wigglytuff in the Pokémon world
The fully evolved Jigglypuff. Larger, fluffier silhouette. Jungle holo Wigglytuff is a quiet collector favorite. Underpriced relative to other Jungle holos.
What is Wigglytuff worth?
Wigglytuff is a holo rare, one of the cards that holds Base Set 2's value. The print variant decides most of it: a 1st Edition copy in high grade commands a large premium over a Shadowless or Unlimited one. In top-grade 1st Edition, Base Set 2 holos range from the mid hundreds for the lesser cards up to the set's marquee chase; raw and Unlimited copies trade for a fraction of that. The live market price above shows the current figure by grade.
Print variants and how to spot them
Base Set 2 produced Unlimited prints. For Wigglytuff, the print variant can change the price several times over, so identify it before you buy.
Grading and condition
Expect the holo window to set the grade on Wigglytuff. Print misregistration and fine scratches in the colorless foil are the usual reasons a copy lands at a 9, and edge whitening against the frame is the next thing a grader notes.
If you are collecting Wigglytuff
Buying Wigglytuff well means pricing the exact print and grade, not the card name. The 1st Edition Wigglytuff trades above the Unlimited copy, so confirm the stamp before you agree a number. Always see the holo surface in good light first.
