The gold Hyper Rare Pikachu ex is one of the cards that close out the Prismatic Evolutions set, and Pikachu’s universal appeal gives it a firmer floor than almost any other modern card. It is the headline Pikachu of the current era and a magnet for collectors who do not otherwise chase the Eevee-themed set.

Why Pikachu value is so spread out

Pikachu sits at both ends of the market at once. The contest and promotional grails are among the most valuable cards in existence because they were never sold and barely exist. At the same time, Pikachu appears in nearly every set, so most Pikachu cards are common and cheap. The collectible middle, the secret rares, gold Hyper Rares, and special-product cards, is where reachable value lives, and it tends to hold up well because Pikachu draws demand from outside the usual collector base.
