Cleffa · Neo Genesis, what to know.
About the Cleffa card
Numbered 20 of 111 in Neo Genesis, released in December 2000, Cleffa is a Rare, a Basic Colorless-type carrying 30 HP.
As a Basic Pokémon, Cleffa needs no prior evolution to put into play, which made it a practical card in the era's decks.
Illustrated by Kagemaru Himeno. Himeno is one of the most-recognized vintage illustrators, with a softer, more textured style that shows up across the Jungle and Neo runs.
Printed on the card, the Cleffa Pokédex entry reads: "Because of its unusual, star-like silhouette, people believe that it came here on a meteor."
About Cleffa in the Pokémon world
The baby pre-evolution of Clefairy. Cute small-Pokémon card with niche demand.
What is Cleffa worth?
Cleffa is a non-holo Rare. In Neo Genesis, value concentrates in the holo rares, so a Cleffa trades modestly, though a clean, well-centered 1st Edition copy in PSA 10 is scarcer than the print run suggests and carries a real premium. Check the live price above for the figure by grade.
Print variants and how to spot them
Neo Genesis produced 1st Edition, Unlimited prints. For Cleffa, the print variant can change the price several times over, so identify it before you buy.
Grading and condition
Non-holo Rares like Cleffa are easier on surface but no kinder on centering. Wizards-era cards were less protected than the holos, so high-grade Cleffa survivors can be scarcer than expected, with edge whitening the usual cap.
If you are collecting Cleffa
For Cleffa, check centering by eye, edge whitening on all four sides, and surface under angled light. Non-holo Rares from this era are cheap enough that a PSA 10 submission on a clean Cleffa can make sense.
