Haunter

Haunter is card 6 of 62 in Fossil, released in October 1999, a Rare Holo. It is a Stage 1 Psychic-type with 50 HP.

As a Stage 1, it evolves from Gastly, which places Haunter deeper in its line and means most collectors hold it alongside the cards it evolves from.

Illustrated by Ken Sugimori. Sugimori is the lead character designer of Pokémon itself, so his card art carries the tight, on-model look that defined how the creatures appear in the games.

The Pokédex entry printed on Haunter reads: "Because of its ability to slip through block walls, it is said to be from another dimension."

The middle Gastly stage. Floating, tongue-out, mischievous. Fossil holo Haunter is a quiet collector favorite. Its anime presence (the friendly Haunter in the Tower of Lavender episode) gives it an emotional draw.

Based on recent eBay sales, raw copies trade from $28 to $90 depending on the print and a PSA 10 runs from $1,480 to $2,900. The 1st Edition print is the most valuable, with a PSA 10 near $2,900. The table on this page breaks the price down by print and grade, updated 2026-05-21.

Fossil shipped in 1st Edition and Unlimited, with no Shadowless print. The Edition 1 stamp under the artwork separates the scarcer 1st Edition Haunter from the Unlimited copy.

Expect the holo window to set the grade on Haunter. Print misregistration and fine scratches in the psychic foil are the usual reasons a copy lands at a 9, and edge whitening against the frame is the next thing a grader notes.

If you are buying Haunter, work in order: confirm the print variant first, then the grade, then price against recent sales for that exact variant and grade. For a raw Haunter above a few hundred dollars, insist on angled-light photos of the holo so you can spot hairlines.
