Aerodactyl is card 1 of 62 in Fossil, released in October 1999, a Rare Holo. It is a Stage 1 Fighting-type with 60 HP.

As a Stage 1, it evolves from Mysterious Fossil, which places Aerodactyl deeper in its line and means most collectors hold it alongside the cards it evolves from.

Illustrated by Kagemaru Himeno. Himeno is one of the most-recognized vintage illustrators, with a softer, more textured style that shows up across the Jungle and Neo runs.

The card's flavor text gives Aerodactyl a line of lore: "A ferocious prehistoric Pokémon that goes for the enemy's throat with its serrated saw-like fangs."

Fossil shipped in 1st Edition and Unlimited, with no Shadowless print. The Edition 1 stamp under the artwork separates the scarcer 1st Edition Aerodactyl from the Unlimited copy.

Expect the holo window to set the grade on Aerodactyl. Print misregistration and fine scratches in the fighting foil are the usual reasons a copy lands at a 9, and edge whitening against the frame is the next thing a grader notes.
