Venomoth

Numbered 29 of 64 in Jungle, released in June 1999, Venomoth is a Rare, a Stage 1 Grass-type carrying 70 HP.

It evolves from Venonat, so Venomoth is a later-stage card that set-builders usually slot into a full evolution run rather than buy alone.

Illustrated by Ken Sugimori. Sugimori is the lead character designer of Pokémon itself, so his card art carries the tight, on-model look that defined how the creatures appear in the games.

Venomoth carries this Pokédex flavor text: "The dust-like scales covering its wings are color coded to indicate the kinds of poison it has."

The fully evolved Venonat. Moth silhouette, dusted purple wings. Jungle holo Venomoth has small but loyal collector demand. A reasonable entry point for graded Jungle holos.

Based on recent eBay sales, raw copies trade from $3.96 to $15 depending on the print and a PSA 10 runs from $130 to $315. The 1st Edition print is the most valuable, with a PSA 10 near $315. The table on this page breaks the price down by print and grade, updated 2026-05-20.

Jungle shipped in 1st Edition and Unlimited, with no Shadowless print. The Edition 1 stamp under the artwork separates the scarcer 1st Edition Venomoth from the Unlimited copy. The set also has the famous No Symbol error from its first print run, which adds a premium when the lower-right set symbol is missing.

Non-holo Rares like Venomoth are easier on surface but no kinder on centering. Wizards-era cards were less protected than the holos, so high-grade Venomoth survivors can be scarcer than expected, with edge whitening the usual cap.

For Venomoth, check centering by eye, edge whitening on all four sides, and surface under angled light. Non-holo Rares from this era are cheap enough that a PSA 10 submission on a clean Venomoth can make sense.
