Vileplume

Numbered 31 of 64 in Jungle, released in June 1999, Vileplume is a Rare, a Stage 2 Grass-type carrying 80 HP.

It evolves from Gloom, so Vileplume is a later-stage card that set-builders usually slot into a full evolution run rather than buy alone.

Illustrated by Keiji Kinebuchi. Kinebuchi contributed a smaller body of Wizards-era cards but is responsible for several memorable holos, with a warm, heavily textured style.

Printed on the card, the Vileplume Pokédex entry reads: "The larger its petals, the more toxic pollen it contains. Its big head is heavy and hard to hold up."

Vileplume is a non-holo Rare. In Jungle, value concentrates in the holo rares, so a Vileplume trades modestly, though a clean, well-centered 1st Edition copy in PSA 10 is scarcer than the print run suggests and carries a real premium. Check the live price above for the figure by grade.

Jungle shipped in 1st Edition and Unlimited, with no Shadowless print. The Edition 1 stamp under the artwork separates the scarcer 1st Edition Vileplume from the Unlimited copy. The set also has the famous No Symbol error from its first print run, which adds a premium when the lower-right set symbol is missing.

On Vileplume, look at the corners and the framed border first. Non-holo Rares took more handling than the chase holos, so a sharp, centered copy of Vileplume in a true PSA 10 is harder to find than the print run suggests.

For Vileplume, check centering by eye, edge whitening on all four sides, and surface under angled light. Non-holo Rares from this era are cheap enough that a PSA 10 submission on a clean Vileplume can make sense.
